The Registered Nurse is
licensed by the sate of
New York to practice nursing.
Their position is professional and
carries with it the responsibility for
assisting the client with the
achievement of his/her health goals
while maintaining high standards of
patient care. The Registered nurse
performs acts, which require substantial
specialized knowledge and training. The
Registered Nurse is responsible and
accountable for making decisions that
are based on the individual's
educational preparation and experience
in nursing, within their scope of
practice as stipulated by the NYS
Department of Education and Professional
Standards.

The Licensed Practical Nurse
performs acts under the direction of the
Registered Nurse, which requires
substantial specialized knowledge,
judgment and nursing skills . The
Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible
and accountable for making decisions
that are based on the individual's
educational preparation and experience
within their scope of practice as
stipulated by the NYS Department of
Education and Professional Standards.

The Home Health Aide is
the highest of paraprofessional in home
care. Home Health aides are responsible
for health-related tasks as well as
personal care tasks. The health-related
tasks are unique to the home health
aide. These tasks can include taking the
patient's temperature, pulse and
respiration rate. Home Health Aides are
also responsible for such things as
helping patients take their medicine,
and performing hands on care (bathing ,
feeding) as outlined on the care plan
formulated by the Registered Nurse from
the Agency who has evaluated the patient
in their home. The Home Health Aide
performs basic health tasks that allow
the patient to remain in the home. They
must submit a weekly performance check
list to the Agency which is reviewed by
and discussed with the Agency RN as
needed.

Personal Care Aides
provide services to homebound persons
needing some or total assistance with
everyday tasks of daily living, or ADLs.
Some of these tasks include assistance
with personal hygiene, dressing,
feeding, walking, meal preparation,
light housekeeping and laundry.
Personal Care Aides provide the services
to help the patient stay in the home and
live independently.

Companions care for the
more independent client who needs
minimal assistance and some supervision.
They may assist in household chores;
accompany clients to outside activities;
assist the more able patient to
organize, prepare & serve meals and help
to manage their daily activities. Any of
the above Home Health disciplines may
also provide the services of a
Companion.

Certified
Nursing Assistants
& Nurse Aides
provide hands-on patient
care in Hospitals and other Health
Care facilities, under the direction
and supervision of a nurse. They
must adhere to the regulations of
the facility to which they are
assigned. Because of their direct
and frequent contact with patients
and families, they are often the
first healthcare provider to notice
early symptoms or changes in the
patient's condition, making them
valuable members of the healthcare
team.
